Member Bios
April is originally from Charlotte and attended Florida A&M University where she obtained a BS in Business Management. She enjoys a career as a Financial Analyst and her hobbies are: reading, traveling and spending time with her husband and son. Her aspiration is to eventually start her own business, and her personal philosophy is “I can do all things through Christ Who Strengthens Me - Philippians 4:13”
In April’s words: “I joined SASS to meet likeminded, strong, positive and independent women. These ladies have become my sisters and I enjoy the openness of being able to laugh together and cry together. Not only have I learned more about the other ladies, I've also learned more about myself. Being an only child, I now have sisters that I know will be there for me when I need them.”
Alissa
Dawn is an Emeritus Member as she recently relocated to Baltimore to pursue her dream career as Crime Scene Forensic Scientist. This intelligent young woman graduated from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and the National University in San Diego, CA.
Dawn likes: “Anything Harry Potter, most fantasy novels, true crime novels, books in general; having coffee while hanging at the bookstore, and most of all hanging out with my SASS sistas!” Conversely, she dislikes: “Parents who don't discipline their children, the "War on Terror" and the healthcare crisis of America's elderly.”
Erika is originally from Fayetteville, NC and attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and holds a BA in Journalism and Mass Communications. She also received an AS in Internet Technologies at Central Piedmont Community College. With this experience, Erika has a career in Public Affairs.
Erika is also the Book Club Discussion Leader within SASS and her hobbies include: tennis, piano and learning to cook and sew. Her aspiration is to write a film or book that inspires the masses, and her personal philosophy is “Keep at it!”.
In Erika’s words: “I saw SASS as an opportunity to meet smart, outgoing and successful women who could inspire me to reach my goals.” Blue is the favorite color of this Aquarius and she loves eating desserts and listening to her favorite artist, Prince.
Geneva is our second Emeritus Member as she recently moved back to her home state of New Jersey. Geneva attended Smith College where she received a BA degree in Economics and enjoys a career as an Investment Banker.
Geneva is the “Dancing Machine” of SASS and we’ve all enjoyed watching her move across the dance floor! Outside of work, Geneva is “active in church and enjoys outside activities – especially hiking!"
In Geneva’s own words: “I moved to Charlotte immediately after graduation without having family or friends in the area. SASS initially became an outlet to meet other women. Since then, my relationships with the SASSy ladies have developed into friendships and more importantly a support group away from home. “
Latoya M. is a “water baby” from San Diego, California and has her own event planning business, called Inspirations. (a fitting name for this lovely lady who provides SASS with so much inspiration!) A lover of children, she also enjoys a career a licensed foster caregiver.
In Latoya’s words: “I joined SASS to connect with intelligent women and to have some fun! So far, this has proven to be a smart choice!”
Latoya J. is originally from Tampa, Florida and graduated from Winston Salem State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mass Communications. In addition to her current career and event planning business, Latoya is an avid reader and freelance writer.
Latoya tells why she joined SASS: “ Being new to the area, I joined SASS because I thought it was a creative and interactive way to meet other African American women who were successful and looking to build new relationships with others in the area. I officially met the ladies at our first Christmas Party in Dec. 2004, so I guess that’s when I joined although I had been in constant communication with the founder from the first initial ad in Creative Loafing. I have bonded with these ladies and built wonderful friendships that I know will last for a lifetime. We help each other with sound advice and comforting words when needed. You can’t find too many people who are there for you when you need them to be and these ladies are.”
A true “Cancerian” at heart, LaToya enjoys meeting new people, traveling, studying different cultures, planning events and being productive in everything that she sets out to accomplish. Latoya's personal philosophy: “God is the captain of my ship and Through Christ All Things Are Possible.”
Pam B. is originally from New Jersey, and has lived in San Antonio, Texas and Atlanta, Georgia before making Charlotte her home. Pam says “I joined SASS as a way to continue to grow personally and broaden my horizons. “
In her own words: “I am a Gemini, which means my goals, hobbies, interests and philosophies change often. However at any given time in my life, I attempt to do the best I can with the skills and knowledge that I have. I’m an optimist at heart and give my all in everything I do.”
Pamela G. is originally from New York and her ultimate professional goal is to be an entertainer – in either acting or singing. Her personal goal is to be able to achieve her dreams so that she can truly be happy from within. Pamela is a Scorpio with a great sense of humor who enjoys billiards, bowling, cooking, singing and being considered a "Cool Mom". She has two children to be proud of - - a 20 year old daughter, who attends NCCU and a 14 year old son. She says: “My children are the highlight of my life!”
This is what Pam says about SASS: I joined SASS because I was looking for other women who had the same ideas, goals and zest for life that I have. I wanted to meet women who were sure of themselves in every aspect of life - - women who were capable of being someone's friend and not so quick to be judgmental. I wanted to meet some "REAL WOMEN". I found what I was looking for in my Sistas with SASS! Regardless of the job title or status, we are all the same in this organization. This is a group of very diverse women. We all have ideas, opinions and beliefs that we share with each other. Everyone may not agree with everyone at all times, but we are able and woman enough to agree to disagree and move on! I love each and every one of them for all that they have been to me and for what they have given me!”
It’s no doubt, Pamela’s personal philosophy is simply: “I am woman…hear me ROAR!”
Simone
Simone is originally from Baltimore, MD and relocated to Charlotte for a career move. She is a graduate of Bowie State University where she received a BA in Communications with a concentration in Public Relations and Advertising. She also received her Masters in Management degree from the College of Notre Dame of Maryland. Simone currently works as a Marketing and Communications Director for a local nonprofit organization.
Simone enjoys reading, shopping, traveling and contributing to her blog, honeebeegifts.blogspot.com. Simone was introduced to SASS by fellow member Erika and has enjoyed getting to know each of the members who have become friends.
Simone is strengthened by her faith and believes in living life to the fullest.
Stephanie
Tiffany is a native of Charlotte and shares that she is “one of the few people who live in Charlotte and was actually born and raised here as well! Yes, I am an original Charlottean! I got away for a while and lived in the NC Mountains and went to Appalachian State University and then moved back to Charlotte. “
Tiffany’s limited place of residences is no indication of the Renaissance woman that she is and says this is one of the reasons she is honored to be in SASS.
In her words: “They are a reflection of me and I of them, and I actually say that with confidence. I’m not a woman of many words about myself but one thing everyone should know about me is: I know that I will be dead a lot longer than I am alive, so I live life to the absolute fullest.”
